ELDERS

In our denomination, an elected body of lay leaders works with the pastors to provide for church governance, discernment, and vision-casting.

We have 12 ruling elders, comprising our Session, and 2 teaching elders, Pastor Eric Peterson and Pastor Heather Thomsen Tang.  Each of our ruling elders oversees an aspect of our church's life and governance, assisted by committees for each area.

Joining one of the committees is a great way to become more involved in the life of the church.  Each committee meets on a regular basis and works with the elder for that ministry area to listen for Christ's guidance, discern the needs of the congregation, and seek solutions and innovations toward Colbert’s missional and formational goals.  If you would like to explore committee membership as a way to serve this congregation, please contact one of the elders below via the church office: (509) 468-9923

  • Karen Anders, Worship (2026)

The Worship committee attends to the liturgical and sacramental rhythms of the church year, and collaborates with pastors and music staff to provide for the worshipping life of the congregation in all its aspects.

  • Dick Moeller, Buildings and Grounds (2026)

The Buildings and Grounds committee is all about stewardship. Colbert’s beautiful campus and woodsy grounds are both incredible gifts. As stewards of what we’ve been given, we want to use and care for them well. The Buildings and Grounds committee oversees regular maintenance of our property and buildings, including grounds clean up and mechanical repairs.

  • Wendy Olson, Strategic Outlook (2026)

The Strategic Outlook committee looks at the church from 30,000 feet above ground. This distant view helps us see the existing symbiotic relationship among all committees and groups and the impact they have on CPC and the greater Colbert community. Our work includes nominating elders, deacons, and Endowment Fund committee members.

  • Rick Meyers, Stewardship and Finance (2027)

The Stewardship and Finance committee oversees the church treasury, and counsels the Session with recommendations about how to best steward our financial resources.  The committee welcomes members to help analyze financial statements, seek stewardship opportunities for our congregation, and prepare information for Session presentations.

  • Jack Lewis, Adult Ministry (2027)

The mission of the Adult Ministry Team is to promote activities that will equip people in our congregation to the work that God has ordained for them to do. We promote educational activities, Bible Studies, and small group activities for the adults in our community.

  • Walt Seidel, Personnel (2027)

Personnel oversees and cares for the staff, participates in hiring processes, and ensures the safety and well-being of our staff and congregation through alignment with the church’s personnel handbook and stated operating procedures.

  • Deanna Bax, Mission and Social Justice (2027)

This team nurtures the missional outreach of our congregation, while also encouraging the congregation toward adopting missional lifestyles. The Mission and Social Justice committee partners with local non-profits both financially and relationally to invite the congregation into biblically-robust postures of love of neighbor, care of the poor, and hospitality.

  • Sarah Crecelius, Children's Ministry (2028)

Children’s Ministry looks after the care of our youngest saints, helping them grow and learn about the love of Christ. This committee partners with the Directory of Children’s Ministry to select curriculum, plan events, and invest in the spiritual formation of our children.

  • Cassie McCloskey, Youth Ministry (2028)

Students in grades 6-12 come under the care of Colbert’s Youth Ministry. The Youth Ministry Elder represents these students and the ministry's leadership during meetings of the Session, and supports the Director of Youth Ministry throughout the year.

  • Beth Melville, Fellowship (2028)

The Fellowship Committee meets quarterly to plan congregational and intergenerational events, and to consider pathways for deeper fellowship within our congregation. This team provides the always-popular donuts and coffee on Sunday mornings, and helps maintain the communal kitchen.

  • Sandi Nokes, Caregiving (2028)

The elder for Caregiving oversees our Deacons team. The Deacons each care for a “flock” of congregants, writing them seasonal notes, checking in about prayer requests, and providing extra care as needed situationally. If you would like to know about the deacon ministry or would like to come under the care of a deacon, please contact the church office, (509) 468-9923.

  • Barb Murphy, Clerk of Session

The Clerk of Session records the minutes at every Session and business meeting of the congregation, and is our clerical liaison with Presbytery.

DEACONS

The Colbert Deacons provide a ministry of caregiving.

Each Deacon is assigned a “flock,” a group of approximately 16 individuals or families. The Deacons provide their flocks with opportunities for confidential, prayerful support and care when it is needed.  Through compassionate and gentle service, each Deacon stays in touch the people in their flocks by writing seasonal notes, checking in about prayer requests, and providing extra care as needed situationally.

If you would like to know about the Deacons Ministry or would like to come under the care of a deacon, contact the church office (509)468-9923).
